Last Friday February 18th we held the Sachem School District first custom Munny contest from grades 9 through 12. Each student had to design a Munny graphically, 3D, or 2D and submit them to Genuine Artikle. We check out every design and made an honorable mentioned wall and finalist wall where we picked out 3 lucky winners. Each winner walked away with a bunch of prizes as well as the 1st place winner from the event will get there design hand painted on a 7 inch Munny by ZAM! All the students did a awesome job!!! On Dec 11th over 250 customized 3 inch Kidrobot Dunnys will be on display at Halcyon from 7pm to 10pm. Many of today's hot designers will be represented in this weekend only event in the heart of Brooklyn's underground.

The Dunny is referred to as the top designer toy platform. It is only produced in a printed form, so all pieces for the show were stripped bare and mailed out to national and international toy designers, graffiti writers, street artists and graphic designers.

Last night October 15th was the opening night for Patricio Oliver's solo show/signing @ Genuine Artikle. The Argentinean Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Art Teacher, Kidrobot Artist, and macabe creator of "The Tenebrae" & "Cucos", displayed 20 graphic prints of haunting mysteries and entities. PO hung out and signed some figures and chatted with everyone!

White Ghost comes to NYC

Two giant sculptures by Yoshitomo Nara are now in place on Park Avenue! These fiberglass and steel sculptures, each 12 feet tall and together known as White Ghost, were just installed less than a month ago. It took a crane and a big crew working most of the day. The works now stand on the Park Avenue median near the entrances to Asia Society (at 70th St.) and Park Avenue Armory (at 67th). If your in the area definitely stop down to check these out! The exhibition with Asia Society Museum will be up from September 2010 till January 2011.

ZAM PICKED FOR CE CONTEST!!!!!

The 10 finalists for the CE final battle have been chosen. Each artist will be flow out to Thailand to compete in the final portion of the contest.

The CLEA2010 portion of the event include the Character & Licensng Fair, a CE Exhibition from 100 fnalists (50 International / 50 Thai Designers), a Live contest zone for 10 Finalists and the other contests. Also included in the program are at least 6 conferences about Character & License topics, a License clinic, among others.

Zam owner of Genuine Artikle was selected in the top 5 international artist and will be heading out the first week in September to finish the last part of the contest. Here's his design below.

On September 11th 2010 Earl Funk (tattoo artist from Trinity Tattoo in Florida) will be at Genuine Artikle for his release of his NEW book "Ink-Cidental Bio-Blots". This Book is based on Rorschach tests and are made from paper towels used to wipe in progress tattoo's, they're completely random and unintentional. Each person has there own interpretation of what it looks like to them.

Earl Funk will be doing a book signing as well as showing off some pages of the book and displaying framed flesh through out the gallery. Opening night starts at 8pm make sure to cruise on down and check this out. It will blow your mind!

At first I was having trouble how to describe this event. This show will be something that I have yet to witness in the 30 plus years of living on Long Island. I have seen the underground culture change so much over the years out here and it has been spread out through lots of small gatherings on the island.

With that in mind. We have gathered together all talented upcoming artists to come work along side with some of the best well... established style originators.

We have set this up to have many of different sounds including: R & B artists, bands of many styles including rock, funk and experimental, hip hop acts ranging from today's independent artists to the well recognized 90's and even 80's pioneers. There will be close to a dozen DJ s working there magic taking you on a journey on 3 different stages. A 3 vs 3 B-boy battle between two of the best break crews I have ever seen. On top of all that we will have 30 Aerosol Artist's from all boroughs of NY, Long Island, New Jersey, Kansas and other areas coming in to paint murals live on 2500 square feet of wall space. A good amount of the artists involved are some of NY's 1st to ever paint the subway system in the 70's.

Again,this is an event that does not happen on Long Island. So please come show your support, unity, positive vibes and energy to help make this something we can build out here and bring our underground community to the next level..Thank you in advance. I plan on seeing you all there.

Last night we made a trip to Da Bakery to check out Shiro Solo Art Exhibition. Personally one of my favorites, this was definitely worth the trip to check out shes mad cool, was signing books, and trading stickers. Her canvas work was super clean and so dope! Sen2 brought us to the roof to check out the piece they did together, I posted some pictures of it below. I gotta say it was a great night. Good meeting you Shiro, and thanks Sen2 for putting together an ill show!

Last Saturday June 5th Genuine Artikle welcomed the Traveling Custom YOKA show presented by DKE Toys and adfunture. We displayed over 150 custom YOKA bears from artists all around the world. Many sailors collected tattoos as souvenirs from their travels around the world. Many of these tattoos were used as talismans to protect sailors from the woes of the sea. Today many of these designs have become stapes in the tattoo world. We owe most of these designs to the grandfather of the “traditional tattoo”, Sailor Jerry Collins from Honolulu, who left his mark on boat loads of military men.

Celebrating the first day of the New York City Tattoo Convention, we pay homage to New York City’s tattoo artists from yesteryear. From Sam O’Reilly to living legends like Stanley Moskowitz, this figure represents a rough and tumble time in New York City; A time when you could go to The Bowery, find a tattoo parlor, get a skull and dagger, get a shave and a haircut or a black eye removed and if you stepped out of line, you just might “get a shiner.” Hats off to all those that have left their “mark” on New York City!

In conjunction with the 13th Annual New York City Tattoo Convention, Zam of Visionary Tattoo, is releasing this exquisite series called “Marked Munny” It consists of six 7” Munnys that are completely "tattooed" from head to tail. Today we are releasing a sneak peek of these meticulously detailed characters. Stay tuned, each day this week we will release another amazingly ‘tattooed” custom from this killer handcrafted series! These will be exhibited and available at the New York City Tattoo Convention all weekend at the Roseland Ballroom, 5/14-5/16. Come by and check out all the incredible ink on display, tattoo contests and of course these “inkcredible” Munnys!

This is the first in the series of the Marked Munnys by Zam. The style of tattooing worn by this Munny is called Horimono, a traditional Japanese style tattoo, most notably worn by members of the Yakuza. The bodysuit theme is a tiger and peony flower. The tiger is commonly tattooed to empower its wearer and the beauty of the peony brings harmony to the fierceness of the tiger.

Here’s Zam’s Marked Munny #2 today! Representing Cholo style tattoos and originating from the barrios of East L.A., chicano gangster tattoos typically involve religious imagery, calligraphy, cars, images of loved ones and can be reflective of prison life. The clown face symbolizes laughing at one’s enemies. Life and death, good times and hard times, laughter and tears sum up the imagery behind the Cholo style tattoo. In recent years, this style has become well sought after by celebrities, by artists like Mr. Cartoon and Fonzy.[img]

The Moko is a Polynesian art form of the Maori people of New Zealand. Traditionally, the Maori people used sharpened bones and other crude sharp instruments to apply these fiercely intricate designs to their faces and bodies. This type of tattooing was a sacred art form and was applied during a series of rites of passage from adolescence to adulthood. Sadly, this art form almost became extinct, but Maori tattoos have made resurgence in recent years and efforts are being made to restore this ancient tradition among its people.

Last night we attended The North Face BIGFOOT collaboration @ the North Face store in SOHO. There was limited quantities of fresh product on sale during the event. BIGFOOT was on site creating a nature inspired art right in the front window, props to you BIGFOOT!! Special edition BIGFOOT/Laken water bottles were on sale for donation to City Of New York Parks & Recreation, NYC Million Trees Project.
